James Allen Insurance (JAI) recognizes the detrimental effects foreign animal diseases can have on-farm operations and has developed a new program to offer even more comprehensive coverage at a very reasonable cost. When insured through JAI, the new program ensures no farmer or rancher goes out of business because of a foreign animal disease infestation.
The new program covers a range of operational expenses for producers and livestock operations, including:
- Feed costs
- Insurance premiums
- Interest costs
- Loan payments
- Medication
- Vaccination costs
- Mortgage payments
- Property taxes
- Payroll
- Payroll taxes
- Rental costs
- Utility costs
- Veterinarian costs
- Waste removal costs
Coverage for these expenses is provided through JAI’s ASF, FMD, PRRS and PED policies. The innovative Foreign Animal Policy program provides comprehensive coverage for all of these diseases with a minimum annual premium of $5,000.
The trigger for ASF or FMD coverage would be a declaration of either disease in the United States. After a 30- to 90-day waiting period, coverage would go into effect and the policy would respond once the deductible has been met. Expense deductibles range from one to three months’ worth of expenses. For PED coverage, there is a one-month deductible and then the policy pays up to one month of expenses. For the PRRS policy, there is a one-month deductible and then the policy pays up to two months of expenses.
JAI works with farmers to create personalized policy plans for their operations based on the size of their herds. Policies for ASF, FMD, PRRS and PED can be purchased together or separately based on the needs of each producer and operator.
